The Kia Soul EV looks like a normal Soul at first glance with stable ride and handling, comfortable seating and flexible and generous cargo space. What you can’t see is fast charge capability and a travel range of almost 100 miles.
With its built in, direct-current, fast charged port, you can charge the onboard battery up to 80 percent in as little as 33 minutes. That is unheard of. It is also rated by the federal government at 105 miles per gallon-equivalent in combined city/highway travel. Are you kidding me? And don’t get me started on the 10 year/100,000 mile limited warranty. It is blowing the competition away. It should be available early in 2015 in the U.S.
Normally all electric vehicles are smaller in size and interior roominess but the Soul managed to maintain all of the qualities that has afforded it the reputation in the market segment it has gained since its debut. Most of its competitors only have a range of around 82 miles and are around 16.5 inches shorter than the soul. The soul has 18.8 cubic feet of cargo room. That is huge.
The rear lift gate opens wide to aid in loading. The way Kia manages to keep so much normalcy while the competitors struggle to find room is due to the lithium-ion polymer battery pack that is shaped and spread out to fit under the Soul’s floor. It also aids in having better center of gravity, which helps handling.
